News concerning the Manannán Scout troop

Manannán swim test Friday 21 April

Manannán News

Manannán will have their annual Swim Test during the meeting on Friday, 21 April.

The Swim Test is compulsory for all Scouts, to ensure that Scouts can swim without a lifejacket for 50m, and thereafter remain afloat for 2 minutes.

In addition to full uniform as normal, Scouts should bring a towel, swimming shorts, an old t-shirt/rash vest, and old runners/boating shoes.

Scouts should contact their Watch Leader if they have any questions.

Easter Camp (Manannán)

Manannán News

Manannán will be camping in Powerscourt for Easter weekend, from Friday 14 until Monday 17 April.

Scouts must come down to the Den on the Friday in full uniform, with hiking boots instead of black shoes.

Times:

We will be meeting in the Den at 1000 on Friday 14 April, with lifts leaving for Powerscourt between 1030 and 1100. We expect to be leaving Powerscourt on Monday 17 April at 1100, and finished putting gear away in the Den at 1230. Watch Leaders will arrange lifts to and from Powerscourt for their watch.

Adequate clothing for 3 nights (spare trousers, boxers, socks, t-shirts, spare jumper)

Tea towel (for Watch)

Sun cream, insect repellent

No more than €5 spending money

Mobile phones ARE NOT PERMITTED on this trip.

 

Cost:

The cost of this camp will be announced by each Watch Leader for their own Watch.

 

Investiture:

New members are reminded that they will be formally invested into Manannán over Easter Camp by making the Scout Promise. All Scouts must have full uniform for this. Any new member who has purchased a neckerchief from the Group for €10 will be presented with their neckerchief upon investiture.

Luas Lasrach

Manannán News

The Luas Lasrach takes place on Saturday, 25 March. We will be meeting at Cowper Luas Stop on the Green Line at 1115. The event is expected to finish up in Cowper at around 1600.

All Scouts must have a neckerchief and a Manannán hoodie if they have one.

In addition, all Scouts must bring a packed lunch, and either bring a Leap Card or purchase a Luas Flexi ticket for the day.

Manannán badgework

Manannán follow a programme for Adventure Skills and Nautical Badges during Friday night meetings while the boats are out of the water. Below are the requirements for attainment badges; any Scout interested in being awarded with a badge can discuss this with their Watch Leader or with the Section Leaders.

Knockree hostelling (Manannán)

Manannán News

Manannán will be going on a hostelling trip on 25-26 February, staying overnight in Knockree Hostel on 25 February.

Times

The troop will be meeting in Crone Wood car park at 1800 on Saturday 25 February. We expect to be back at the Grange Road car park in Marlay Park by 1600 on Sunday 26 February.

Cost

The deposit for this trip was €20. The remaining cost, to be paid at the Friday meeting on 23 February, will be confirmed for each Watch by the Watch Leaders.
