News concerning the Manannán Scout troop

Manannán hostelling 23-25 February

Manannán News

Manannán will be going on a hostelling trip to Lough Dan from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 November, details are as follows:

Times

We will be meeting in the Den at 2000 on Friday, with lifts leaving by 2030. Collection from Lough Dan on Sunday will be at 1030, with lifts arriving back at the Den at around 1130. Lifts will be arranged by each Watch.

 

Directions

Please click here for directions to Lough Dan Scout Centre. Cars should drop off in the main car park, and Scouts can walk to the hostel.

 

Gear list

Each Scout must have every item on this list to be permitted to go on this trip; Watch Leaders will be checking gear before departure from the Den on Friday.

Medication if required – MUST be brought to attention of Section Leader

Sleeping bag

Small rucksack/bag for day hike (lined with black sacks to keep contents dry)

Manannán training top and neckerchief (this excludes new members)

Hiking boots

Rain gear (top and bottoms)

Water bottle (min. 1 litre)

Warm clothing (hat, gloves, scarf, fleece)

Adequate clothing for 2-night stay (spare trousers, underwear, socks, t-shirt, jumper)

Hi-vis jacket

Tea towel (for watch)

Toiletries, towel

Torch

Mobile phones ARE NOT PERMITTED on this trip and may be confiscated for the duration of the weekend.

For new members who need additional advice on what gear they need for a hike, the Sea Scout Book is a good guide – see pp 132-3 (clothing) and p. 138 (hiking boots).

 

Cost

The total cost of this trip is €40 plus a food budget as decided by each Watch; this has been communicated to all Scouts by the Watch Leaders. This money will be collected by the Watch Leaders on Friday 16 February.

Wide game on Friday

Manannán News

Manannán will be doing a Wide Game activity on Friday, 12 January, so Scouts should bring warm clothes and raingear, in addition to full uniform as normal.

An Activities Consent Form for 2018 must be completed and returned to the Section Leaders at the start of the meeting.

Boatwork will begin this weekend, with sessions from 1100-1300 on Saturday and Sunday. All Scouts are required to put in a minimum of 14 hours of boatwork before the boats are launched at the end of April.

Manannán winter break

Manannán News

Manannán will not be meeting on Friday 10 or 17 November. Our last Friday meeting of 2017 will then be on Friday 24 November.

Please note that there will be 2 bag packing fundraisers in Dunnes Stores Cornelscourt over the winter break: Saturday 9 December and Saturday 23 December. All Scouts are required to sign up for one shift on each day. Shifts are as follows: 1030-1300, 1300-1530, 1530-1800.

The first Friday meeting of the New Year will be on Friday 5 January.

We will be meeting in the Den at 1930 on Friday, with lifts leaving by 2000. Collection from Glendalough Hostel on Sunday will be at 1030, with lifts arriving back at the Den at around 1130. Lifts will be arranged by each Watch.
