Summer Sailing 2015

Group News

Following the successful completion of the sailing courses last summer we will be running the courses again.

We have courses running on the following dates –
Course 1 June 8-12
Course 2 June 15-19
Course 3 June 22-26
Course 4 June 29 – July 3
Course 5 July 6-10,
Course 6 July 13-17

There is a limited number of places on each weekly course, and because we wish to give our scouts first preference, we need to gauge the level of interest among scouts before we open the courses to other sea scout troops. Therefore we would ask that all interested scouts e-mail the following relevant information to sailing@8ucalafort.org as soon as possible. This course is only available to registered Scouts and Ventures.

Please put summer sailing 2015 and Scouts name in the subject line.

• Troop Name
• Name
• Age
• Contact Phone number
• E-mail address
• Scout leaders name and contact number
• Current Level (Start sailing, Basic sailing, Improve sailing etc…..)
• Copy of any ISA Sailing qualifications
• Dates that you are interested in attending

We can only process applications when all of the above information has been supplied.

The cost of each five day course, which will run Mon – Fri (Approx times – 0930hrs – 16:30hrs), is €120.

If there is sufficient interest, all scouts will be notified by email that the courses are going ahead and how many places are available. We envisage that there will be 12 places available each week.
Places will be allocated on a “first come first served” basis.

Please note that everyone must start at Level 1, unless they already hold this or a higher level ISA cert. For those with sailing experience who have not obtained the relevant ISA Cert, Direct Assessments may be arranged subject to demand.

Hamill Cup – Fodhla

Group News

Hi everyone,

The Hamill Cup takes place this Saturday in the Howth Scout Den.  Registration takes place at 10:15, so I would like all scouts to be there by 10:00.

We will travel as a group by DART and will meet at Salthill/Monkstown DART station at 08:45 sharp.

Fodhla will need :

  • FULL UNIFORM
  • Boating Gear
  • DART fare
  • Lunch

The event should be over by 15:30 / 16:00 and we will text parents when we are leaving Howth.

The following have signed up for  this event:

  • Sadbh ni R
  • Clodagh McD
  • Sadbh Ni C
  • Amy D
  • Aoibh O’R
  • Sianna Q
  • Caoimhe T
  • Emer ni D

Ideally we need two more to complete two teams.  If these aren’t available from within Fodhla we’ll recruit two scouts from another troop to make up the second team. While there are prizes for the top three teams, this is very much a Team Fun Day Event.
