Six of the younger Eriú cubs enjoyed a day out on New Moon with Skipper Brian Welsh as they supported the Fodhla rowing team in the Long Distance Skiff Race. The course race is approx 14km starting in Dun Laoghaire harbour and finishing at the 4th Port Dodder Sea Scout den. The cubs headed out to New Moon on the launch under warm, sunny skies and were soon underway ready behind skiffs for the 11am start. New Moon kept close to the Fodhla crew for the entire race and the cubs chanted encouragement all the way as the crew rowed steadily across the open water of the Bay. New Moon followed the skiffs around the Poolbeg lighthouse and into the mouth of the Liffey where the crew changed at Costello’s slip on the Great South Wall. The fresh crew rowed up the Liffey under the East Link bridge to finish at the Dodder Sea Scout den where the cubs attended the prize giving and watched Mananán receiving their trophies after a quick lunch alongside the Poolbeg Yacht Club marina. Then with a skiff in tow, New Moon headed back to Dun Laoghaire.
