Eriu cubs enjoyed beautiful Autumn sunshine during their annual trip to the IMC Hut in Glendasan. On Saturday, the cubs crossed the Glendasan river using the stepping stones and headed over into Glendalough Valley to complete the challenge of the Spinc hike returning through the Miners Village -a total of 13km with some quite steep stretches walked by our amazing cubs! They saw lots of deer and several stags with stunning antlers. Also a hunting merlin. After a hearty dinner the cubs enjoyed a big campfire with songs, skits and s’mores. A group of 6 adventurous cubs then went on an hour long night- hike up to the Wicklow Gap, following the steps of St. Kevin’s medieval Pilgrimage Path. The full harvest moon was so bright that the cubs walked in moon-shadows and saw a deer and her fawn jumping across the path away from us. On Sunday morning, the cubs learned and practiced their fire-lighting skills before crossing the river into the woods to make bivvies.
